Anthony Keeling, Bass and Guitar
The Return of Anthony Keeling
Anthony's "bio" is a story of returning and reclaiming.
Keeling grew up in Augustana and went to the renowned high school for the arts, HSPVA from which he graduated in 1977.
After time in the military, stationed in San Antonio, Anthony explored life, sometimes--like so many of us--learning some lessons the hardest ways he could find.
In 2009, Anthony appeared at Augustana, ready to come back home. He had reclaimed his life. When Pastor found out that Anthony had a musical background, he immediately asked "Tony" to direct a youth choir and Anthony jumped right in. He had a vision of adding bass and guitar to our services.
This, too, became another return and reclaiming for Anthony. He'd not played bass or guitar since high school. He bought a bass and an amp and began practicing. One day he said, "I'm ready!" and his music is a permanent part of our worship. It has been a treat and a blessing for all of us to watch (and hear!) Anthony not only reclaim his former skills, but to surpass them. In short, he rocks!
That's not enough for Anthony, though. He is back in college earning an Associates Degree in Mental Health/Social Services and working at La Hacienda Rehabilitation and Healthcare Facility as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant).
Thanks, Anthony, for being an inspiration and for including Augustana in your exciting journey.
