What is a Lutheran?

Being a Lutheran means different things to different people.

  • We believe in one Triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost)

  • We believe that God sent His son, Jesus Christ, to save the world from sin

  • We believe that only one baptism forgives sin

  • We believe in confession and forgiveness of sin

  • We believe in the Resurrection of Christ

  • We believe in Eternal Life

  • We believe in God as creator, while we do not deny the power of science

  • Our services are built upon an order of worship (Liturgy)

  • Communion is offered to all Christians

At Augustana, we have communion every Sunday and at most special services. (Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday...)

While some members of Augustana were born and raised as Lutherans, many others have come from differing denominations.

We welcome all visitors heartily and gratefully in the hope that they, too, might find Augustana a church home in which they feel free to "let their little light shine!"
